In common with other popular German marques Audi and Mercedes-Benz, BMW produces a wide range of different models ranging in size from the 1 Series hatch through to the X5 SUV and 7 Series saloon. They’re great cars, loved by many around the world. But which model is right for you?

BMW 1 Series

The smallest model in the range, the 1 Series offers hatchback practicality and a taste of the luxury available in BMW's high-end models. It sports the manufacturer's unmistakable kidney grille and shares the 3, 5 and 7 Series' rear-wheel-drive layout, making it both fun to drive and unmistakably a BMW. BMW 2 Series

Launched in 2014, the 2 Series replaced the outgoing 1 Series Coupe, but is still essentially just that - an alternative bodystyle of the 1 Series. Using the 1 Series as a base, the 2 Series features a sportier, more streamlined two-door body; drivers can expect sharp and agile handling, even improving upon that of the 1 Series hatch.

BMW 3 Series

BMW 4 Series

Formerly known as the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible, the 4 Series was so-named in 2013 in a bid to simplify and streamline the model lineup. The change in name brought with it a new model variant, the Gran Coupe, a five-door variant with an elegant sloping roofline. The most popular 4 Series models are the coupe and convertible variants, however, taking all that makes the 3 Series great and dialling up the fun.

BMW 5 Series

The next step up from the 3 Series, the larger 5 Series packs in more luxury, additional high-tech features and even more performance. Much like the 3 Series, the 5 Series is available in an array of different guises, with plenty of trim levels and engine sizes to choose from. BMW 6 Series

A newer addition to BMW's range, the 6 Series takes the venerable 5 Series model and spices it up a little with a coupe-style body. Two body styles are offered: a two-door coupe and the four-door Gran Coupe model, introduced in 2012. Although the 6 Series sacrifices a little in terms of practicality over the 5 Series, it more than makes up for that with its elegant styling.

BMW 7 Series

The largest and most cosseting four-door in BMW's line-up, the 7 Series has an imposing presence on the road and offers a level of comfort unmatched by the 1, 3, 5 or 6 series - and few other vehicles for that matter. BMW X5

The X5 is the original BMW SUV, having first been sold way back in 1998. Since then, it's evolved considerably, the later models offering more efficient engines and ever-more advanced safety and entertainment features. The high-riding SUV is capable of traversing rough terrain if need be, but sacrifices nothing in terms of on-road performance and comfort - it’s why the X5 is one of our favourite used 4x4s.

BMW X6

Much like the 6 Series in relation to the 5 Series, the X6 is based on the X5 but features a totally different coupe-style body. Designed with a greater focus on on-road performance as opposed to all-terrain ability, the X6 has a lower roofline and less cabin space, but has an unmistakable appearance which has made it popular amongst the nation's SUV buyers.

There are numerous factors to take into consideration when choosing your next car. Fortunately, the BMW range is impressively varied, and there’s bound to be a model which suits your needs perfectly.

Below each of our car sale listings, you’ll find a section detailing the vehicle’s specifications, with everything from safety features through to the car’s 0-60 time and fuel consumption displayed. It’s important to weigh up all of these factors, as - for example - a 1 Series has significantly better fuel economy than an equivalent X5 but can’t match its off-road capability or comfort levels.
